Biosketch:

I am a research scientist based at Myanmar Oxford Clinical Research Unit (MOCRU), Myanmar. I am a medical doctor and studied Master in Public Health – Health System Management and Policy at Institute of Tropical Medicine. I am now doing my DPhil in Clinical Medicine at University of Oxford. My main research interests are artemisinin resistance falciparum malaria and ethical issues in clinical research. I have been involved in the therapeutic efficacy study of antimalarial drugs and survey on artemisinin-resistant molecular markers in Myanmar. Moving forward I would be interested in developing ethical guidelines for medical research in Myanmar.

Project title: Ethical issues in recruitment of teenagers and young people in clinical research in Myanmar

This research project will focus on the ethical issues in relation to recruitment of teenagers and young people in clinical research in Myanmar. Myanmar recently has begun opening up to the international community and there is a lack of guideline for research with teenagers and young people. We will use qualitative and descriptive study approach on research participants and family members of ongoing malaria research and also local community members in rural Myanmar. This study will guide the development of new guideline in this particular context.
